Speaking of giveaways...

I've been looking at various promotional ideas lately -- bookmarks, postcards and the like -- and decided to try something out at Walmart -- Decks of cards.

Yeah, I can see it now, no more playing Hold'em with the guys and having to play with titty picture decks (though it did make for a fun time of 'these are real, these aren't'), I can pull out my book cover decks and play :), wonder how fast they'll be ready to deal then? hmmm...

So I ordered the cards, they duly arrived, and I went in to pick them up. They look better than I'd thought they might. The lady behind the counter just handed me the bag, and when I opened it to check them, she wandered over asking if they were the cards you can order on line -- she was thinking of doing them for the card playing grandparents for Xmas. When she asked if she could have a look, she picked up the PJ cards, and went "oh!", then picked up the next deck, which was Tea for Three with the two yummy men on the cover. The next refrain was "Oh, My!" and, no joking here, she stroked right down the middle of Craig's chest with a purred, "Mmmmm".

I kid you not!!

I then went on to tell her they were my book covers, and I was going to use them as promotional items, by signing them and using them like bookmarks. No sooner was it out of my mouth than she was asking if she could keep one, and "my web address was on the front so she could find where to buy a copy, wasn't it?"

Just goes to show, you never know when a promotional moment is going to jump up and bite you on the butt.

I should go back and find out if she bought a copy and print her off a cd cover and sign it. I mean, I might end up famous, and it could sell on eBay for thousands some day!

The Deck's and the Moo Cards I mentioned a while back:

(The Moo Cards might be small, but they are quite thick, not thin like normal business cards.)

Anyone want a signed T43 playing card to use for a bookmark? Just drop me an email with your address and I'll mail one out to you!
